Behind The Art

Acori Honzo is a Philadelphia-based contemporary artist known for his handcrafted 1/6 scale “afro-pop” figurines—meticulously sculpted works that honor iconic Black figures, from Malcolm X to The Notorious B.I.G. Blending pop culture with cultural storytelling, his work stands at the intersection of artistry, history, and representation.

Honzo began his career in the fine art space, developing a foundation rooted in storytelling, cultural preservation, and intentional craftsmanship. His work has since evolved into a distinctive practice that bridges traditional art and collectible design, earning recognition and press coverage for its unique voice and cultural impact.

He is also the co-founder of Depicting Our Peoples’ Excellence (D.O.P.E.), an initiative dedicated to celebrating and uplifting Black culture through art and creative expression, and co-founder of LBO Collective
(https://www.letsbeonyx.com), a creative platform focused on original storytelling, design, and cultural innovation.

Honzo’s journey began with a simple realization: high-end collectibles rarely reflected Black identity with care or accuracy. After discovering a detailed figurine purchased by his wife, he recognized the gap—and decided to fill it himself. What started as curiosity became a calling.

Each piece is cast in resin, hand-painted, and individually outfitted, ensuring no two are exactly alike. Every figure carries intention, craftsmanship, and a deep respect for the subject it represents.

“I want every piece to be one of a kind and made with love—love of our people, our features, and our heroes,” Honzo says.

More than collectibles, Honzo’s figurines are cultural artifacts—designed to honor legacy, spark connection, and preserve the stories that deserve to be seen, remembered, and celebrated.
